Fear Of Anger
This tends to be a question many ask when it comes to God. The source of the question comes from fear. Some fears emerge in relation to God’s anger and wrath. We fear we are not heard, and we fear we will not be forgiven.
Let me ease your mind in answering no. No, God is not mad. Anger is very short lived. But His love endures forever. (NIV) Psalm 106:01, “Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
God may be disappointed in us, but He will never separate us from Him. More so, instead it is ourselves who choose to run away, and in doing so we fear He is angry. We become blind to the truth, which is that God is forever forgiving.
So why do we fear God being angry?
In order to understand the question, “Is God mad at me,” we need to understand why we are asking the question.
We already know what the source of the question is, fear. But where does fear come from? Where is fear rooted?
The answer? The heart.
Lack Of Effort
A heart willing enough to want to love God, but in constant fear God will not love back, and/or forgive us.
We fear God is angry at us because of our lack of effort to Him.
This comes from several aspects in having a relationship with Christ.
Not attending church.
Not reading the Bible.
Not trusting Him.
Any form of believing or partaking in something God is against.
Too Much Sin?
Many people who want to believe struggle with the idea that they’ve committed too much sin. That there is no possible way for God to forgive them. But we know God is the Impossible One.
We need to understand that fear is a connector. Fear likes to connect different parts of our lives, and our mind. Making us afraid of change. Making us afraid of what we are doing currently. We get so scared, in fact, we can’t move forward out of fear, and we can’t move backward out of fear. We become stuck to the point we believe the lies we tell ourselves instead of believing the truth.
(NIV) John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
These fears, when it comes to God being mad at us, can be answered through scripture because through scripture God is directly talking to us.
Now scripture states that God does not listen to sinners. This means that those who refuse to change their ways at all, nor acknowledge Him, He will not listen to.
Many can confuse this with those who struggle with backsliding in sin, which is covered in the post Giving Up Sin When It’s Hard.
But the main difference we need to ask ourselves, in knowing if God listens to us, is this simple question.
Are we sincere?
Sincerity is the difference between God listening to our hearts, or not.
Some sins are not as easy to get rid of compared to others. These particular sins are knowns as iniquity. Iniquity, by definition, refers to immoral or evil behavior.
But before jumping to the conclusion you’ve committed the worst act ever against God, take a deep breath, calm down, and keep reading. You are not alone.
The key word to take from this definition is behavior. These are sins that have become part of a daily routine and/or habit. Many times these are sins people struggle giving up, and backslide on. By knowing the definition of iniquity, we can see this makes sense because these sins have become part of daily life.
So what do we do now?
We work on our heart with the Lord.
Be Loved And Accept It
Every time it’s been voiced by someone that he’s gone too far, or she’s committed too much sin, it comes from a fear of truly facing God. A fear of giving that sin, and the fear itself over to Him.
One of the main reasons why is because these people also tend to have another fear in common.
And that is the fear to be loved by God.
The fear to believe that Someone so powerful can also be merciful.
God Is Like No One Else
When we are at our worst point in our life, we can’t fathom understanding Someone loving us despite everything we’ve done in our lives. Especially those of us who haven’t experienced love.
Many are accustomed to abuse and rejection. Many are used to always being wrong no matter how hard they try.
So when it comes to God, it’s hard to see Him in a different light compared to everything they’ve experienced in the past.
But here is a beautiful secret.
There is NO ONE who is like our God!
He is the great I AM!
God Is Love
And guess what?
Above all else…
GOD IS LOVE!
(NIV) 1 John 4:15-17, “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.”
We need to strive in simply believing in God, and there are ways to do so. Therefore I must add in here, if you are willing, God is too. Christ gives us salvation because He became tainted for us. (See Christ Became Tainted For Us for more information about Christ and salvation)
