(NIV) 1 Corinthians 14:15, “I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.”
This scripture, in particular, is covering speaking in tongues and prophesy. But I want to focus on the fact of the depth of these words.
We shouldn’t just go through daily life, not understanding. We shouldn’t repeat prayers we aren’t fully understanding. We shouldn’t worship Christ with songs that we don’t listen to the words.
There is no reason to go through the motions and not understand why we do them. We are accountable for every action we do. God doesn’t want us to use our mouth proclaiming things, but our mind, heart, and sometimes spirit are not even it.
We are told by Christ not to go through the motions for the praises of men, and we certainly can fool Christ. If our heart isn’t in it if we don’t understand what we are doing, but are pretending…
He’ll know.
Have you ever caught yourself doing something out of pure routine, but your heart wasn’t it?
We need to stay totally in Him and not the praise of man, richer are your rewards if done to Him and not humans

I agree. We are all accountable for the things we do on Earth. As T.R. said, “There is no reason to go through the motions and not understand why we do them.”

This right here is why I think we should take a break from the norm every now and then. I want the new year to find my family in church faithfully not bc it’s what we “should” do but bc it’s what we thirst to do. If we are just going through the motions all the time we are just wasting time. Please help me pray my family up to have a bigger thirst for God and his will, his way, his house, his people, and most importantly, his word!

Definitely!!! Any else you need prayers for? I have a list out for the blogging family that way I know what to pray for. May you be strengthened and grow this year 🙂

Basically just that and that we can get our finances in order so that we can get some things done around the house we just bought. What about your prayer needs?

Okay, 🙂 Finances as well, and for my husband to find a job that he can grow in. And for God’s hand to be active, and help me continue to grow in Him.
Thank you so much!!!

He finished his enlistment in the Air Force this past summer and currently is in college. He is looking into computer engineering. His degree also requires an internship so if he found a job that would fit his major that would definitely help. 🙂

Oh wow be is on to something there. Are there jobs in that range where you guys live?

Yes, we are living currently there are places around. The tricky part is he doesn’t have the degree. He was a maintainer in the Air Force, so he has experience, but not necessarily the experience needed just yet for the jobs. I do believe God can find the right place for him. I’m hoping however it works out, in the long run, he will find a company that is also somewhat closer to family.

Powerful post, dear T.R.! How many of us have fallen into the “doing things by rote” trap? Thanks for the much needed challenge! ❤

I’m sure we all have at one point or another, especially when first starting out. 🙂

This reminds me of Isaiah 29:13 “Then the Lord said, “Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,” (NASB)
May the Lord help us not to be that way but to truly worship and love the Lord with ALL our hearts….ALL
This “tradition…by rote” reminds me of a post I wrote recently called Ruts – Am I Stuck? You can find it at:
