Gifts From The Holy Spirit | Believer 101

This post has been requested by God’s Warrior. He requested I do a post on this last year and a post on temptation. I am pleased to say I am finally ready to do this post on gifts.

First of all, it needs to be understood that not everyone will have the same gifts. This includes the gift of tongues. Though there are many gifts, all of these gifts come from the same Holy Spirit.

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 12:04, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.”

And not only gifts, but the Holy Spirit also imparts to us to different services or ministeries, and the Holy Spirit also gives us different work as well. This is why it is so important to ask God to help us see what our calling is, and not to doubt your calling even if it isn’t stereotypical.

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 12:05-06, “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”

For example, my calling is for believers and God has used my writing to help others. Not only has He provided me to help in ministry but also in mission work as this blog has reached over 75 different countries.

The Holy Spirit works within us and what He works within us may be different than others. But the overall goal is to help each other.

(NIV) 1 Corinthians 12:07, “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

 (Found In 1 Corinthians 12:08-12, 28 & Romans 12:07-08)

Message of Wisdom- This gift is supernatural wisdom. Wisdom to be able to see through darkness and understand when the enemy is lying to you. Wisdom to have the Word of God revealed to you.

Message of Knowledge- This gift is the gift to have facts given to you supernaturally.

I’ve had a pastor given me a word before, and I now know having someone give you a word is when they speak to you something God has told them to tell you. Having the message of knowledge can apply to the individual and sometimes, as in my experience, the message is meant for someone else.

Faith – Some are blessed with the gift of faith, a strong trust in God. This gift works wonderfully for prayer warriors because when we ask in prayer we need to believe.

Gift Of Teaching- Not all teachers are called to teach. You’ll notice some teachers just know how to convey the message to others. That is where this gift comes in. The Holy Spirit helps those called to teach. This does not mean those who teach and do not have the gift, shouldn’t teach. If we teach, we should always pray for clarity and guidance.

Gift Of Healing- Supernatural healing, anyone? Yes, the gift of healing manifests in some believers.

Gift Of Tongues- This is a special communication between God and the individual. Not everyone will have this gift, but there is nothing wrong in praying for the gift, or any of these gifts if you desire it. When someone speaks in tongues, sometimes there will be a message for the congregation, which leads us to the next gift. Speaking in tongues is a way for the Holy Spirit to intervene and convey to God what is in your spirit.

Gift Of Interpreting Tongues- This gift allows a person to understand someone speaking in tongues. I’ve never experienced the gift of tongues or someone interpreting tongues until I met my friends from the Toxic Church Experience and joined their church. That is when I first heard the wonderful gift of tongues, and when I went to a conference with them at their home church in Texas, I heard the amazing gift of interpretation. There is praise for God, there is both encouragement and warning for believers. It’s powerful.

Gift Of Prophecy- A lot of people experience the gift of prophecy through dreams. But just because we may have a significant dream, does not mean we have this gift. Make sure there is a lot of prayer for clarification and connection to scripture for dreams you feel may be tied to something.

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.41.37 PM.png

Gift Of Discerning Spirits – To be able to discern means the person is able to tell the difference. The gift of discerning spirits is the supernatural gift of having almost an instinct feeling on people or situations. I’ve been told, and I believe, I have this gift. I’ve always had certain feelings about people whether or not to trust them when I’ve first met them or to be wary of them. There is no reason for the feelings to occur with nothing to base them off of, but when this is a gift the Holy Spirit makes it known.

Gift Of Administration – Process of running an organization, project, etc. Someone who takes control. Someone who gives others direction in how to handle things. A lot of times these will be people behind the scenes. But God equips them and helps them do what needs to be done.

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.42.31 PM.png

Gift Of Helping Others- Some people have the love for others and helping others. That love and desire to help others are special. These people work well in mission work. Exhortation, giving advice could come from this gift.

Gift Of Serving- Somewhat similar to helping others is the desire to serve others. I know at my home church there is a group of women who always help when it comes to serving and making food.

Gift Of Encouragement- I believe I also have this gift. This is another desire and love implanted in the hearts of some. To encourage others. To uplift them.

Gift Of Giving – Giving does not just have to be with money. It can also be food, clothing, and time. For those who love giving, it comes in all forms for them.

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.43.40 PM.png

Gift Of Leading- Some are born leaders, but that doesn’t mean they have this gift, and some aren’t born leaders but have been called for this gift. The gift of leading will be given by the Holy Spirit, and it will be made apparent. Evangelism could come from this, guiding others to the truth, as well as pastoring.

Gift Of Showing Mercy- Mercy does not come easily to everyone, especially depending on the circumstances and the reason for giving mercy.

The gifts we have been given we must be used to the best of our ability.

(NLT) Romans 12:06, “In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.”

It isn’t surprising to see how some gifts work well together. Whatever our calling is, God will use our gifts and desires in our heart to work together.

Pray For Gifts

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.54.54 PM.png

It is important to know we need to diligently pray for gifts we have already, and gifts we feel we need help in. He may not give us the gift we think we are good at.

It is important to look at what we are doing now, what we are good at. Is there anything God has used you already for His glory? To help or encourage others? If you have the gift of music/singing, writing, teaching, cooking, etc can these be used for Christ? You may be surprised. Lift up everything to Jesus in prayer, and meditate on scripture. Be daily and consistent. This is how we hear Him.

Remember, the disciples were uneducated fishermen. But God’s Holy Spirit gave them wisdom and knowledge. Check out 1st and 2nd Peter to hear Peter’s wisdom.

As We Get Closer To Him We May Gain Other Gifts

It is important to understand, as we get closer to Christ, as we become more Christlike, we will see His Holy Spirit more active in our lives. So it is possible as we work on prayer, and asking God where He wants to lead us, other gifts and desires in our heart will become more apparent.

Am I Or Is My Gift Small?

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.56.08 PM.png

Don’t ever feel like your gift or your calling is small. If you are young, don’t be afraid.

(NLT) 1 Corinthians 12:22, “In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.”

How are the leaders going to get through if they aren’t taught? How are the teachers going to get through if they aren’t encouraged? And maybe you were the one wondering why being an encourager was important 🙂 God uses what appears to be weak and least important to be strong and of significance.

Don’t ever feel like God cannot use you. He uses all of us. He needs all of us to work as the church together. The body of Christ cannot all be the same. We all function together as one, but not as the same members.

What are your gifts?

Are there topics you would like to see covered in Inside Cup?

  1. I know for sure that I have the gift of discernment. I get a feeling about things and sometimes I hear a voice in my head telling me that something is wrong. This gift has allowed me to warn others of evil and keep me personally out of bad situations.

    1. This is a good thing Christi. If you do have the gift of discernment, continue to pray and ask God to help you discern His voice in your life and let Him guide you in discerning not just the physical, but the spiritual as well because there is a spiritual war being fought over us.

The gift of discernment will allow you to discern between God, man, and supernatural and allow you to distinguish between what is of God, what is of man, and what is a lie and trick by Satan to get you to stumble. The Apostle Paul makes a reference to the discerning of spirits in 1 John 4:1-3.

      1. My parents do. My dad was the one who named my gift. If I get a bad vibe about a movie or tv show they turn it off. It helps with keeping the demons out of my family’s life. I’m very grateful for that.

      2. That’s wonderful! My mom started listening to me when I refused to call a youth pastor, pastor. He was a young man, in his early 20s, and he became a youth pastor to the teens in the church, I was one of them. But I feel like you need to earn the title, and I just…never had a reason to call him pastor. We had our pastor at the church, amazing man, who was my shepherd, and this young man I didn’t connect to. The youth pastor later legit walked out of church after having another church offer him more money. He never said goodbye to the teens. He walked out during prayer night, and the one teen who was really close to him took it extremely hard, as did some other teens. I never did because I never got close, and that was one of the first indicators of the gift. I’m glad your parents listen. 🙂

  2. I liked this part:

“This is why it is so important to ask God to help us see what our calling is, and not to doubt your calling even if it isn’t stereotypical.”

I identify with that one. 🙂

  3. This is a great post, T.R. and I wanted to thank you for doing this post because I think that it won’t just help me but all of us as Christians who are wondering what spiritual gift God has for us. I liked in the post when you said, “… ask God to help us see what our calling is, and not to doubt your calling even if it isn’t stereotypical.”

This is where our prayers comes in because when we pray, there is a connection between God and us as His children. As I continue with this fast, my prayer is that God reveals to me the gifts that He has planted in me and allows me to develop these gifts in order to be a blessing to others.

I also wanted to thank God that He has given each of us a different gift and even if Christians have the same gift; that we each use the gift(s) He has given us to benefit the Kingdom of God.

    1. Yes, the same gifts are definitely not used in the same ways! 🙂 I’ve been praying for you, not only with school as you requested but also with your fast. I’ve been asking God to reveal to you whatever you need to know.

      1. Thank you so much for the prayers, .T.R. they are much appreciated and accepted.

As I go through the Gospel of Matthew, I am learning things about how we should live and about me that I skipped over the several other times I’ve read it.

  4. Thank you for this wonderful post. I have the gift of giving and the gift of discernment. I pray to discern God’s voice in my life because I don’t want to be led astray by other ‘voices’ and wrongfully ‘judge’ people.

  6. Wonderful and spirit filled post indeed! I believe I have many spiritual gifts! Teaching, knowing what God’s word says, prophetic dreams, speaking in tongues, encouraging and I don’t what this one is called but like whenever something bad is going to occur like I dream it or feel like a sharp feeling of pain in my heart and spirit. Or like I wouldn’t be able to slumber the night before I receive the disappointing news. Oh and another one is like before any of my siblings get back from work or school, like I know exactly who will be returning home first, not in like any specific order but God’s voice says to me Lisa is coming or Brina is coming and when I look out the window I see the exact family member lol how strange is that huh? God bless you and continue to use in mighty and uplifting ways in Jesus Name! Xxoo

    1. If you enjoy helping out at church, you may have the gift of serving ❤ Kids may lead to teaching. And your other abilities can lead to other gifts as well. But you will know your gifts more in time, and that's completely okay. 🙂

      1. It definitely sounds like your heart is in serving ❤ it's a beautiful gift to have. The gift of serving can often be a behind the scenes gifts, but as I shared with scripture the gift is just as important as any other ❤

    1. We all have spiritual gifts and definitely when we draw close to Him, Christ reveals the direction we should go. It is amazing how He connects our gifts with our calling. I’m glad you liked this post. I wasn’t going to give explanations at first, but then I was like, “Yeah, I would like explanations if I was reading.” ❤

  7. A really comprehensive and practical list on a difficult subject, of which most Pastors steer clear of preaching, because of either they don’t believe in the gifts of the Holy Sprit (thus, their ministry lacks the dynamite), or fear of being controversial.I know this is one subject the Devil hates to hear teaching on – the gifts of the Spirit, for when Christians are equipped with the gifts, they have the weapons of spiritual grenades, as long as they administer them in love.
By the way, T.L. Noble, can I share with you my latest and first Post on the following address @ https://how2experiencegod.wordpress.com

    1. After a couple of days I’ve realized God has used the gift of knowledge with me. He’s given me an understanding that I thought would come easy to others when it comes to scripture, but I am beginning to see that is not the case, and He wants me to continue to write about topics and scripture so others can understand. I’m so happy He teaches me through His word. Yes, I can look at the post.

      2. Exactly! 🙂 This gift He’s given has helped inspire me to start a series, last summer, on Bible Summaries. It comes on almost every Saturday, unless I take a break. Today, I’m working on the post, will begin 1st Samuel.

  8. I love this post! It’s funny cuz I took a spiritual gift test at my old church. I supposedly have the gift of discernment, but I don’t really think I do haha. I have the gift of encouragement though!
Thank you for writing such a clear post about the different gifts of the spirit!

      1. without getting into detail, we all have talents, and like Holy Spirit, they can be passed on. We need to encourage the good stuff that’s all. and always remember, there are no idols, blessings
