One of the first times I saw a quote about hope, I was a young teen. I had a calendar picture that said, “Hope is wishing for something to happen, and faith is believing for it to come true.”
I believe hope in Christ is stronger than simply wishing. But it certainly pushes us forward. I hope these scriptures speak to your heart and give glory to God.
(NIV) Romans 8:24, “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?”
– This scripture is powerful. I believe hope is one of the first stepping stones to faith. If we cannot even have hope in the unseen than we will struggle believing and trusting in the unseen. Hope is about what has not happened yet, not what we have already.
(NLT) Romans 4:18, “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping–believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”
– It’s really easy for us to feel lost and uncertain when we have no answers, no reassurance that says we should place hope in God. But we are loved by Him. The Alpha and Omega who knows all. People in the Old Testament did not have the hope of Christ, but we do. All the more reason to place hope in Him.
(NLT) Ephesians 4:04, “For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.”
– When I read this scripture I can’t help but notice how both the body of Christ is referred to as a glorious hope for the future. We are the laborers in the harvest. We must be the light on the hill and the salt on the earth. We must be reflective of Christ, to give others hope. To encourage them to know the King of all kings because we have gotten to know Him.
(NLT) Lamentations 3:20-24, “I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!”
– Jeremiah wrote this during a time of Israel’s falling. They were taken captive. That’s why this book is about lamenting, grieving. Yet through all of this pain, he is reminded that the Lord is still God. We see the inspiration for the hymn, “great is thy faithfulness.” Despite our trials and despair, the Lord is beside us bearing our pain. Because of all of this we can still hope in Him!
(NLT) Hebrews 6:18-19, “So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”
– Hope can lead to us gaining confidence in God. It is strong and trustworthy for our souls! It leads us through the curtain to God’s inner sanctuary. The holy of holies. This is extremely comforting and powerful scripture. God remains the same, which is where our hope comes from and where our hope goes to. He will strengthen us, we have this hope in Him.

Yes! How lovely to dwell upon this truth about hope this morning. I do believe too that our hope in Christ encourages others in their walk with Him especially when their circumstances appear hopeless. No matter what we have hope because we have Him. Lots of love. 😚

Lamentations 3:20-24 is me. Hope is everywhere but faith that it will happen is easy to lose. At the moment I am trying to keep faith that God will make sure the right things happen here on earth. That His justice will be upheld by those out here to serve in the police.

God’s will be always be done, it is a promise. But whether or not things go the way we desire may not add up the way we think. A lot of things relate to timing I’ve noticed. One of the fruits of the Spirt is patience. Even when we wait, God can provide His healing, assurance, guidance, and direction. ❤ He will never leave us 🙂 never!

These are exactly what I needed today, thank you! 💞😊 Yes, I agree, there is a great quote that says, “Why wish upon a star when you can pray to the one who made it?” 🙏

Great verse from Lamentations! The Old Testament was all pointing to Christ, but no one had any idea how it would come. So technically I’d say they had hope in a Savior King coming their way – they just didn’t have a clue the form it would take.

I think many people lost hope in Old Testament, like we do today, because God’s timing was not their timing or on their demands. But you’re not, not everyone lost hope.

Agreed, and it was not just in Exodus, but people struggling not trusting God in the desert, then their punishment they would not reach the Promise Land, but their children would. Then the multiple judges being appointed and people still choosing other idols over God. This led to God not helping them win battles, and causing lack of rain, yet still as we see in the book of Amos, the people did not return to Him. It’s easy for us, like them to become focused on what “we want” and then get upset or blame God when things do not go our way.

Amen. Self-centered people easily forget about God’s will and bring glory to His name, not ourselves.

Thank you, T.R. Those verses ministered to my spirit today. My husband just read me Lamentations 3 before I read your blog post, because someone had just shared it with him right before that. Verse 11 is the one he was mostly highlighting.
So, he made reference also to Jeremiah, as did Lynn in her post today, and now you mentioned Jeremiah and Lamentations 3, also. I see a running theme here.
So, I am going to pray over Lamentations 3 and see what the Lord has for me through that passage. Whenever things come in 3s I try to take notice and see if the Lord has something he wants to teach me in particular.
