You ever start to fall asleep and then start to hear lines of your story, or some lines of poetry. That is what happened with this poem. The first two lines appeared to me just as I fell asleep and everything else came from this inspiration.
She was numb to the sunshine,
But cold to the rain.
Darkened eyes were hollow.
Her heart wore the pain.
Breathing felt like a single thread.
Delicate, not strong.
Limbs were heavy.
Soul felt wrong.
Butterflies mocked her.
Flying so freely.
Jealous of their wings.
Almost meanly.
Sunsets were paintings.
Ones she could only dream.
Sunrises were nightmares.
An evil devilish scheme.
Constrained to her thoughts.
Broken and scattered
She felt chained to the ground.
Like she didn’t even matter.
Whispers echo around her.
Yet, she remained still.
Inside her mind, she wondered
“Do I even have free will?”
She pondered the pain
And life’s agony.
Believing its darkness
And trusting its destiny.
Yet, a small voice
One she knew once ago
Whispered against the whispers
“I AM the one you know.”
“You hate butterflies
Jealous of their wings
Because you can’t be lifted
Beyond this world’s sting.”
“You dread the sunrise.
It’s a reminder of new
Because fear and worry appear
And you don’t know what to do.”
“Because it is limited
Power needs no originality.
It’s true you’re not strong.
But, your weakness is My specialty.”
“So many struggle fighting
Proving themselves to have strength.
Failing as soon as they fall.
Defeated at their measured length.”
“You push yourself too hard.
I never ask what you can’t achieve.
But I ask that you work with Me
Or you will only misconceive.”
“Your broken soul will become wings.
Your blind eyes will see again.
I’ll break these chains which bound you.
The ones that taunt you won’t win.”
“The sunset will be your reality.
The sunrise bringing opportunity.
Fear will no longer grip you.
You will feel the promise of unity.”
His words cradled her.
As the chains broke away.
She fell into peaceful sleep.
Embracing the morning’s ray.

You had me with the first two lines “numb to the sunshine and cold to the rain.” – I may have to quote you one day (with your permission and credited to you, of course). The beauty of creativity is it comes at anytime whether it is just before you sleep or waking up at dawn and the best works usually come from there. Keep on writing. This is really amazing poetry.

Absolutely extraordinary, TR!! Time to put a notepad next to my bedside… perhaps, I can learn from your example and one day, write poetry with even just a fraction of the beauty that your poem conveys! ❤️❤️

❤ ❤ you are far too kind, Lynn!!! I should have a notepad nearby too because I had come up with more lines originally, but those were the only two I could think of. But God helped me form the rest, and I know He can guide you and your beautiful mind too!
