What does the love of many will grow cold mean and how does that fit with the End Of Time scriptures?
DISCLAIMER For Series- These scriptures should NEVER be looked at separately in regards to what the Bible offers. To understand the core truth of these scriptures it is imperative you also study the rest of the Bible, and know it well. Knowing the full context will help you understand the rest. This is a study that must be done to enrich your life with Christ, not one of curiousness, but of holiness.
I left off covering the events referring to the Beginning Of Sorrows. These are (all) the scriptures I am looking at from the Gospels. Some of them I have not touched on yet, but I wanted them here as a reference for you in case you wanted to look them up on your own.
Matthew- Chapters 24, 25
Mark- Chapter 13
Luke- 17:20-37, 21:-07-38
Continuing from when we left off
After The Beginning Of Sorrows
Killed & Hated – Christ says after the beginning of sorrows then people will be killed for His namesake.
Now in the book of Mark, this is specified more, and this hints possibly at the believers following Christ’s ascension. Mark indicates they will be delivered to councils, beaten in the synagogues (Jewish place of gathering, like a church is to Christians). They will be brought before rulers and kings for the sake of Christ as a testimony to them. We know in scripture this is exactly what happened. Paul even appealed to Ceasar (Acts 25). (Mark 13:09)
Christ says not to fear when they are delivered up, not to worry before or meditate on what they will speak. The Holy Spirit will go before them and give them the words. (Mark 13:11)
Offended, Betrayal Of Each Other, Hating Each Other – Using a word of sequence Christ says after people are killed and hated for Christ, then more people will become offended. More people will betray each other, and more people will hate each other than in the past.
Mark takes it further explaining siblings will go against each other, parents will go against children, and children will go against parents. Causing each other to be put to death. (Mark 13:12)
Many False Prophets – It’s important to note the difference here between verses 5 and 11 in chapter 24 of Matthew. Verse five refers to people claiming they are Christ. Verse 11 is referring to false prophets. False prophet- A person who is trying to prophesy about something that is NOT TRUE. I’m going to explain this a little bit more because this is important! (Matthew 24:11)
This includes giving out dates for the return of Christ. A person claiming they have received teaching from God when they have not. A person claiming they know the will of God when they do not. These are false teachers acting and believing God gave them authority and knowledge when He did not. BEWARE!
If someone is teaching and preaching something, pulling pieces of scripture to make their account and claim make sense DO NOT BELIEVE THEM!
READ YOUR BIBLE! Know what scriptures say, and NEVER take what someone preaches and teaches as the truth. Know the truth for yourself. We have NO excuses if we are taught falsely and believe blindly!
We are warned in Revelation not to add anything to the scripture or to take anyway away. These false prophets are accountable for their deceitful lies.
Lawlessness Will Abound & Love Will Grow Cold – Interestingly, Christ does not say “after these things THEN lawlessness will abound”. No. Christ says, “And because lawlessness will abound.” With the number of people being killed, the increasing number of people hating each other and betraying each other even to death, it seems naturally lawlessness (chaos, disorder, terrorism) will abound. With all of this chaos, Christ says, “the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12)
Pause. I want to focus on what that really means.
The Love Of Many Will Grow Cold– We are later told in 1 Corinthians Ch. 13 what love is. I’ve covered the love chapter in depth if you want to know what the secret of love is. Secret Of The Love Chapter. When Christ is saying the love of many will go cold, here is what also is being implied.
- Many people are not kind, and they are envying each other. Not compassionate.
- Many people are prideful and braggy. They are also rude and they seek only for themselves. Selfish ambition.
- Many people are provoked. Many people think evil things. Not forgiving but holding grudges and bitterness.
- Many people rejoice in sin and HATE God’s truth.
- Many people cannot bear all things (whining, complaining, giving up, laziness etc).
- Many people do not believe, nor hope. They are not enduring.
- Many people are failing because their love is weak. (1 Corinthians 13:04-08)
Those Who Endure To The End Will Be Saved– Little self-explanatory. But I want to point out, scripture says love endures all things. If we do not have the love of Christ, genuine love, we will not triumph. We will be like sand washed away in the ocean. Not a firm foundation. (Mark 13:13)
Gospel Preached In All The World– This is to be a witness to all nations. All nations will need the truth to be spoken. Some believe this to be true already. Some believe it has not happened as there are secret and hidden tribes in the world that have not heard the gospel yet. (Mark 13:10)
It is ONLY after all of these things, Christ says the end will come. Meaning, the end has not occurred nor started until after everything listed above and before (beginning of sorrows) has happened.
Next time, I will begin to cover the signs of Christ that Jesus tells the disciples.
What do you think of these signs of the end?
Monthly Scripture – (NKJ) Proverbs 18:13, “He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.”
