Psalm | God Laughs At Those Against Jesus, The Messiah

The book of Psalms is packed with a lot of prophecy and discussion about the Messiah. Chapter two is no exception, jumping right into that God would provide a Messiah.

Today’s Reading | Chapter 2

From the get-go we see rulers and nations against the Messiah. Rising up, believing they can defeat Him. But God (verse 4) laughs at them. He rebukes them in anger and terrifies them with His wrath. (Do we really want to go against God’s anointed?)

He reminds them that HE appointed the King on His holy mountain, Zion. This is a big deal. No one can defeat God, and therefore, whatever God decrees will be done. He further explains the powers and authority of this King.

God will be His Father, and all He has to do is ask, and the nations will be His inheritance. Even the ends of the earth His possession! He will be given the ability to break the nations with an iron rod and dash them to pieces, like pottery!

This is interesting because as we saw in the Gospels, one of the things Christ is tempted with is being given the kingdoms of the earth. Gospel Journey | Satan Claimed He Had Authority

Kings and rulers of this world are warned to serve God with fear. To celebrate what God rules WITH TREMBLING! Never forget the power of godly fear! His Son is to be welcomed, otherwise, God will be angry, and the path of those who forsake Him will be destruction!

We are told God’s wrath can flare up in a second, wow! (verse 12) But that those who take refuge in Him are blessed!

What To Take Away: This world has no excuse to forsake Christ and not serve Him. No one can choose to “serve God” but refuse His Son! To refuse Jesus is to refuse God. No one can please the Lord except through Jesus Christ anyways.

(NIV) John 6:44, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

The wrath and anger of the Lord is no joke, and people will be wise to tread carefully. However, as much as His wrath is fearsome to those who turn away, His love for those who have been cleansed IS MUCH GREATER!

What does the wrath of God mean to you?

Monthly Scripture – (NKJ) Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.

  1. The wrath of God means to me that yes he’s loving, compassionate, gracious, merciful and so much more but don’t get him angry. What gets him angry? SIN. He hates it very much. That’s why I always remind myself and to others in Christ never take God’s grace, love & mercy for granted. He’s a just God & Judge. Great breakdown of this chapter. Blessings. 🙂

Absolutely! It is only because of what Jesus has done that we can actually please God. Without Christ’s righteousness, we are merely disgusting creatures wallowing and delighting in sin.
