Desperately Seek Wisdom

Proverbs never ceases to give amazing pieces of advice. Today is all about wisdom.

Today’s Reading | Ch. 2 

First, we are told to listen and treasure commands. But then second, we are instructed to listen more deeply and concentrate on understanding.

We are to cry out for insight and ask for understanding. We are told to seek insight and understanding the way we would silver and hidden treasures. It is only with this desperation we will understand the fear of the Lord. Only with this despeation, we learn the knowledge of God.

We are promised in verse 6 that God grants wisdom, meaning we must seek Him in order to receive wisdom. It is only through God and through His mouth which proceeds understanding and knowledge.

To the honest, He gives common sense. To those with intergity, He gives His defense. The walk of the just and faithful are protected.

How do we become just and fair? How do we receive this protection?

Only through the understanding that comes from the Lord do we learn how to be just and fair. Through the Lord’s understanding being imparted to us, wisdom enters and the knowledge of God gives us joy. This knowledge helps us make wise choices which will protect us, and understanding will keep us safe. (verses 9-11) 

This wisdom gives us discernment to understand people who try to manipulate us with their words. It saves us from people who have walked away from the truth and chose wickedness.

We are encouraged to stay away from those who have turned from the truth.

Those who turn to wickedness will be removed from the land for the godly. Those who turn to evil will be uprooted.

What To Take Away: I love how this scripture is really straight forward and not cryptic. Understanding and the knowledge of God gives birth to discernment and wisdom within us. The only way we could ever receive understanding and knowledge is by seeking the Lord desperately like we would for hidden treasures. Wisdom and discernment from the Lord protect us from making bad choices and from staying in the bad company of those who are sinful.

  1. Amen! Thank you LORD Jesus! I love the Book of Proverbs. I always turn to it in my heart when I faced with giving a godly response to the lost or believers for I don’t want to answer unwisely. I want to respond how God does. So it brings the flesh to subjection and God’s word makes such a big difference in my life! Yes, I seek Him everyday and will continue to! Blessings & peace.

  2. Thank you TR. I love the Proverbs so much. They are great because being 31 chapters, I can read one for each day of the month. My Sunday school teacher growing up told me that…..What a gift they are. Hugs!🤗😍💗💗💗
