Songs I’m Listening To | Casting Crowns, Disciple, MercyMe

I’ve been meaning to share more music that I’ve been finding so this is a long-awaited post. Some of these songs I’ve been listening to since November of last year. The purpose of this series is to share new music that I’ve found and share which of these songs I’ve been connecting with.

1. Casting Crowns

I’ve been listening to an assortment of Casting Crown songs. By far Hands Of The Potter definitely was a favorite for several months, especially during Christmas. Last year when everything was so tense and uncertain, this song really spoke to me.

But then once 2019 hit, I really connected to Even When You’re Running, and other songs calling out to stand up and go to God like Awaken Me and currently, What If I Gave Everything.

“You’ve given me a faith that can move the mountains, but I’m still playing in the sand.” ~ What If I Gave Everything, Casting Crowns

Honorable Mentions From Casting Crowns: Start Right Here, The Change In Me, One Awkward Moment, The Well, One More Song For You, The Bridge

2. Disciple

I’ve been listening to a lot of Disciple these past months. Songs like Invisible a reminder that God sees us no matter what, or that God Is With Us.

My favorite I found at the beginning of 2019, when I started reading The Screwtape Letters, and I felt it connected so well was Come My Way. Questioning which way are we going to go?

“Well, I’m dining with the enemy on the seventeenth day.” – Come My Way – Disciple

Honorable Mentions From Disciple: Secret Weapon

3. King & Country

Since last year, I’ve really enjoyed their song, “Control”.  Another reminder to give everything over to God and to know ultimately He is in control, not us. Later I found the song, “Need You More,” but it was not until my grandma was going through cancer surgery that the song deeply connected to me. I felt God’s love as my heart pleaded for Him to assure me. As well as the song “Burn The Ships a song of rising above heartache. Holding onto Christ even when it is hard.

“I need You more. More than ever before.” Need You More- King & Country

4. Sarah Reeves – Angels

This song has been speaking to me the past several weeks. I’ve enjoyed it since I found it, but learning how to sing it and praise God through it. It’s special.

“How can I stay inside my brokenness when I’ve got a glimpse of Your heart.” Angels- Sarah Reeves

5. MercyMe

I’m always grateful when God places the right song at the right time. This song I found when I was in uncertainty and fear with the cancer surgery my grandma was going through. The Hurt & The Healer was a hard song that challenged me to put my faith in Christ regardless of the outcome of the surgery. To know He would carry me through anything. I felt Him carry me, and the surgery was a success.

Of course, how can I not share this song! “Best News Ever” Christ is the conqueror. We conquer through Jesus! It just sums up everything in Jesus and how He will be there for us. He is the best news ever!

“I’m alive, even though a part of me has died.” The Hurt & The Healer – MercyMe

  1. To be honest I don’t listen to none that’s on the playlist. God has opened my eyes & ears spiritually to His discernment where some of these Gospel minsters are concerned. I saw various signs and symbols on their Album covers and also in the videos that is/was very dark and not godly. From thence I stopped listen to the music from some you have listed and from others that is not on the list. I pray that God continues to open our eyes continually in Jesus name. Just say I had was to tell you about that. 🙂 blessings & peace.

    1. And that’s wonderful!!! We should always be aware of who we listen to and whether or not God wants us to stop listening to people. Thanks for sharing! We should always ask ourselves if something points to Christ or not. I think music can definitely vary for people. What God uses to speak to one person He may not for another. But that also doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be willing to look at who we listen to, what they say, what they stand for, etc. There are Christian songs I’m completely okay with because I see how the song itself gives God glory. But the people behind the song, I cannot stand by.

      1. Do you mean a series on songs I’m listening to? It is already a series 🙂 this is the third post.

Regarding music, I will eventually have a post specifically on Hillsong and Bethel doctrine, and to encourage people that they can totally like songs that glorify God, but it helps to know the background of the group, church, or singer and where they stand.

      2. When it pertains to indivduals I have stepped away because a few months ago I did point out how one singer appeared to be backing away from the Gospel and named the person. My audience was torn.

Some like the person being called out and felt it related to when other indivduals were called out in the Bible and others felt it wasn’t showing love. God has shown me because I do not personally know these indivduals and bands it’s really hard for me to justify pointing out how someone is lukewarm when there are a multitude of other indivduals doing the same thing.

I also felt like should those indivduals ever read my posts how can I encourage them to focus on Christ? That’s why my topics are more broad to help direct these indivduals and not point fingers. That’s why I wrote the post I’m a Christian but I do not always talk about Christ referring to artists, bloggers, etc.

Where I have been led is to encourage people to know who they listen to and where they stand. They need to do their own research and go to God about it.

However, I have felt like I’ve been pushed to talk about Hillsong and Bethel once I know enough. They have created their own doctrine and because they are so large this is not just an individual or small band.

In the past, I been convicted of this topic because I was pointing fingers more than praying for the indivdual and band. I was not as understanding or compassionate. Absolutely we need to turn away from darkness but God has shown me this approach, on pointing the spotlight to other people, tends to stumble people and I don’t feel led to go down that road. But I will encourage people to be more aware in their personal walk. Not just to listen to what I come up with, but to go to the truth of the scripture and seek understanding from Jesus 🙂 ❤

Thanks so much for your concern!!!

  3. I love all these songs! A few weeks ago my uncle passed away through a tragic motorcycle accident, and my brother and him were super close. My brother was on YouTube the other night and found the song “Hope for Everyone” by Matt Maher, and it’s been almost constantly playing ever since. ❤

    1. I responded to this and then for some reason either never posted it or what. I’m so glad you like the featured image! I made it for this series back last fall, I think? It took me a while to come up with the look so I greatly appreciate the compliment. Casting Crowns has so many amazing songs!!! Not sure if I’ve heard that one before, I’ll have to look it up! Thanks to you, I learned about Leeland, so I bet Dream For You sounds lovely.

      2. Girl don’t worry about it – a few days ago, I was talking to another blogger and responded to one comment with a topic that was completely irrelevant to that comment 😂 I totally confused myself!
