The One Who Lifts Your Head Against Fear

ADDITIONS TO THIS SERIES! -I noticed in Psalms that David often shares attributes of God. I thought it might be helpful if I share what I find at the end of each chapter. Not only that but for this series in general, I’m going to try to make sure I add at least one praise song at the end and a sermon you can listen to that applies to something in today’s reading. Every song and sermon I post are ones that I have listened to and approve of.

I’ve been getting a little tired on my end so I took a little bit of break, but I’m back! I’m excited to continue the book of Psalms. We may have finished 2 Samuel, but we are just touching on some stories in 2 Samuel in Psalms!

What do you do when your family member turns a nation against you? How do you remain faithful to God against fear? This is where David was.

Today’s Reading: Psalms 3 

Running From Absalom & Not Being Afraid

We will begin right in the heart of a story in which a father must flee from his son. I’ve talked about Absalom before. He was the brother who killed the rapist of Tamar. But if you want to start to learn of his story check out:

Davids cries out about the many who are against him and how the number of people continues to increase against him. However, he is speedily ready to praise God.

He praises the Lord for listening to his cry. He knows that he can sleep at night and God will look over him. Even though there are tens of thousands against him, he will not be afraid.

God’s Attributes (Ch.3) :

  • A shield
  • Our glory
  • Comforter
  • Listener
  • Sustainer
  • Savior
  • Salvation belongs to God
  • Protector while we sleep

What To Take Away: It’s difficult when people come against us, especially those who we thought we could trust. David lost a lot of people, but from reading 2 Samuel, we know he did have a lot of loyal friends as well. God will provide His body, His church, to be there for us. To help look out for us.

But even if we have no one, we do have Him. God does amazing things. He challenges our flesh to turn over to Him because it’s worth it, and it’s so much better. We do not have to understand the “whys” of everything. We just need to know that God’s way is better, and He is the only way we could ever get through the narrow path.

Growing up as a teen, adults did not provide me with the answers I wanted. I thought I was spiritually mature. Decades later, I saw the importance of understanding and being able to identify deception, false teachers/prophets. I realized my own ignorance about the Bible and the need to study all portions. I came out of the false doctrine of the Seeker-Driven movement, as well as the Holiness doctrine, suffering under the legalism of sinless perfection. My goal is to help women grow in the word of God. To trust His word. To tear apart deceptions, and to encourage Christian Apologetics. My second blog is Peeking Beneath, little more personal, which occasionally is updated. Aside from blogging, I am a wife. I occasionally work on a Christian Fantasy series. I enjoy painting, gardening, cooking, reading, crocheting, and learning from godly men and women.

David went through A LOT and whenever I look at his life, trials what he had endured it reminds me of my life and relationship I have with my Father Jesus ❤ no wonder why Psalm is my fav book in the Bible. Each one relates to me profoundly and it uplifts my spirit to continue to look to the GREAT I AM THAT I AM and know that I'm never alone and He will always deliver me and He is BIGGER than all my enemies. I ❤ Him so… Blessings T.R!

    1. Exactly! Olivia and I agreed there were some truths touched on, at a very surface level. But I will not be recommending it, and I think it’s confusing. They make a claim in their book, in Ch. 1 all the wrong ways to encourage people when someone struggles with perfection. However, in further chapters, all they do is slightly reword these same things … and then it’s okay? There are a lot of problems.

        Awesome! My hubby and I are Reformed Baptist and love Washer’s ministry. He actually is only about 2 hours away from where I live. It would be fun to go hear him preach sometime. He excels at gospel and expository preaching. 💖💖💖💖

      2. Oh, wow!!!! That’s really interesting and so awesome that he’s close!

        My home church’s doctrine is Nazarene, which is holiness teaching, and as long as I receive the truth and the push to continue to grow as Christ, I don’t care about doctrine, as long as it is not watered down.

      6. I am on Ch. 4 I think? Or 5. I…do not agree with it. It’s watered down. It challenges me to look at scripture and see how I can direct these issues in my review, and possible future posts before I even write the review. A fellow sister in Christ, Olivia, she knows your blog, has been talking to me. She is working on her review, and taking her time.

      8. Ohhhhh, that explains a bit. Well, I think it’s an opoortunity to point people to the truth. It’s an opportunity and challenge to learn how to show love against those who have a completely different view. YET, not backing away from the truth of God.
