It’s really easy for us to know what God can do for us, but it’s hard to put that knowledge to faith. We must actively work toward this. David did, too.
Today’s Reading: Psalm Ch. 4
The Faithful Are Safe
Again, David calls out to God. He thanks God for easing his stress, and he seeks mercy for the Lord to listen to him.
David pleads to know how long his enemies will seek worthlessness and lies from others. Remember, at this time, David’s people were turning to follow Absalom as king, not David. He proclaims that God will listen when he calls out to Him.
Here is a well-known scripture. Psalms 4:04, “Be angry, and do not sin.” But here is what you probably have not heard, the rest of the scripture. “Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.” David continues this thought with offering sacrifices of righteousness and putting trust in the Lord. (v.5)
He knows there are people who claim there is no one that shows good, and therefore, he asks for God to show His light of countenance (someone’s face or expression).
God is praised for putting gladness in David’s heart. He speaks of such a gladness it measures more than the increase of a season’s harvest.
Again, David speaks that because of God, he can sleep in peace because it is God who allows him to dwell in safety.
God’s Attributes (Ch. 4):
- Righteous
- Listener To The Godly
- Bears Burdens
- Shows Mercy
- Trustworthy
- Gives Us Joy
- Protector While We Sleep
What To Take Away: I think it is important to note that while we certainly may know and believe God listens to us and He is merciful, like David, there will be days and nights we struggle. We will plead for the Lord to listen to us, even though we know He does. Though we know He watches over us at night, this knowledge alone may not be enough.
There will be doubt. There will be fear.
We must actively seek the Lord, every day, every hour, every minute, and every second. Faith walks in the unknown. It challenges our flesh to stop relying on ourselves and the little we “know” and trust beyond. To put our hands on His truth, not the lies and deception our flesh wants.
David was a godly man. He wasn’t perfect, but his love for the Lord always made him turn to God. That’s because David knew God. It wasn’t David’s love alone, but God’s love that always showed David He was there for him. We must turn to Him and love God with every part of us because in moments when our enemies rise against us, He WILL put gladness in our hearts. The impossible, what doesn’t make sense, that’s God.

I have been struggling with anger lately…I spent time in God’s Word and realized that although the anger i have over a certain situation is in fact justified, God is telling me to give it to him. He will see me through.
I am planning a post on anger soon. It’s funny that you should post about anger right when I needed to read it.
