Prayer is essential to having a walk with Christ. It doesn’t have to be complicated. This short chapter in Psalms gives us a simple overview of prayer, its importance, and God’s power.
Today’s Reading: Ch. 5
David seems to start his morning with the Lord. He asks the Lord to listen and consider his meditation. He is quick to point out that God is not happy with evil and that no wickedness will have a part with Him. God destroys liars and hates the deceitful.
So how do we properly go to the Lord? David says to meet God in His mercy. Fear Him and worship Him in the (temple) secret place. Only after worship, do we see David asking in prayer that God guide him in His righteousness.
David also prays against his enemies that God pronounces them guilty. That the sin of these enemies becomes their own snare.
We are reminded that those who trust in the Lord can rejoice because God defends them! The Lord is a shield to the righteous!
Attributes Of God:
- God hates sin, evilness. He will have no part with it.
- God destroys liars.
- God hates the deceitful.
- God is to be feared.
- God is to be worshipped.
- God guides us with righteousness.
- God lets evil get caught in a trap.
- God is our Defender.
- God is a shield to the righteous.
What To Take Away: Starting our day off with the Lord is important. I understand not everyone has a lot of time when they first wake up, but we have enough time to ask Him:
- To be with us throughout the day and guide us
- To be with our loved ones and those we know
- To use us for His glory
We don’t have to be detailed in the list. It’s important to set aside time for Him in which we can be more extensive with him. But we all can start our day with God. Ask Him and praise Him as we use the bathroom, shower, brush our teeth, comb our hair, etc. Listen to a worship song or a sermon/podcast in the car or while having/making breakfast. We do have the time. It’s just how we choose to use that time.
He is our comfort and strength. He helps us in trouble. If we aren’t going to Him at the start of the day, it’s going to be hard to hide under His wings. Don’t put Him off.

Community Prayer Requests | October– Join us in requesting prayer, praying for each other and lifting each other up.
Prayer signifies our dependence on God. Lack of it is rooted in pride because we are indirectly telling Him that we can figure life out on our own

Truth!!! Thanks for sharing that powerful perspective. I also see it as saying, “I don’t have tine for You.” But this still follows what you said because of our pride in placing other idols before Him.

That’s so awesome! It really is as simple as talking to a very close friend. Someone who knows us the best. No barriers. No secrets. Completely opened and exposed. 😊
