This poem is written for anyone who struggles with condemnation. This poem is written for anyone who struggles with spiritual oppression. This poem is written for anyone who struggles with fear. We cannot fight against these forces on our own. But Jesus has and He has conquered all! Turn to Him! Put your faith in what Jesus has done with His atonement sacrifice on the cross. Repent from sin! This is not our battle alone, but one for the King, and HE HAS WON!
Even when I feel attacked and alone,
I know there’s a narrow path.
He holds me in place, you see.
Because only in Him is life in eternity.
~
So often I can hear the whispers
Condemning me
Pointing fingers
Telling me where I fall short.
~
The accusations are correct.
But there is a deception amidst.
I feel constricted under
The hold of darkness.
~
But then something breaks forth
Against the weakness and fear.
My Almighty Savior is steady
And I trust He is near.
~
His name is Jesus, the Christ.
He took my place instead.
Anointed One, Messiah.
On the cross, He cried out, “Abba!”
~
The wages of my sin
I could not pay the price.
But Jesus knew all of this
And He became the atonement sacrifice.
~
So, when I feel the darkness.
When the whispering lies swarm.
I pray against the darkness
And I see His truth conform.
~
Me.
~
I am different.
I am not condemned.
Because of the blood of the Savior.
For He died because we sinned.
~
He is bigger than the demons.
His truth is narrowly paved.
He is the living Water and Bread.
He destroyed the grave.
~
Darkness has no power over Him.
They can’t touch His presence.
So when I’m hurting and afraid, I’ll cry out.
“Jesus is my defense!”
~
“He is my shelter!
He is my refuge!”
Only in Him can I rest
Because the protection of the Savior is huge.
~
I am not in this alone.
He is the Door, the narrow way.
The path of life is Christ.
And in Christ alone I am okay!
~
So, when the accusations
The lies, and fear surround.
I’ll turn and praise my Savior.
In Christ, I stand on solid ground.

Beautiful reflection, TR! I liked the effect of the stanza that was simply, “Me.” It make me pause like I imagine a “selah” is intended to. Thanks for sharing!

I appreciate this, Olivia! You’re right, there is definitely a pause that takes place, though I did not realize it at first.
