Here’s Why I Am NOT Going To See Redeeming Love (Alisa Childers)

I have escaped the talk about the movie and book Redeeming Love, but apparently many people are talking about it. In a nutshell, the book of Hosea inspired Francine Rivers to write a love story about a man who marries a woman who has a background in sex trafficking. She turns back to her old ways and cheats on him, eventually the marriage gets restored. The movie is said to have some steamy sex scenes.

While I am not affected and not planning to get into the media myself, I think Alisa shares some convicting points we need to consider for those thinking about seeing the movie, and what we should consider regarding media and Christianity.

Such as:

  • Should Christians view media that shows sex scenes, even if it’s between a married couple?
  • What does the book of Hosea actually cover? How is this movie misleading?
  • Alisa is doing a series of studying Hosea, see this link on her blog, if you would like to see the breakdown of Hosea – Study of Hosea by Alisa Childers
  • Hosea marrying someone who will cheat on him – is to show how Israel constantly rebels against God – not an innocent victim
  • What’s the difference between the Progressive Gospel and the Christian Gospel?
  • Problems when we read victimhood into scriptural passages?
  • Redeeming love – through the bloodshed of Christ
  • Ezekiel 16 – showing God’s attitude toward sin
  • Dangers of lust – Christ’s warning of lustful intent is the same as sinning
  • Is the movie going to draw us closer to Christ or make us repent because we are sinning in lust?
  • SNAP OUT OF IT CHRISTIAN WOMEN – Alisa’s warning that we need to turn to the Bible more than media
  • God’s purpose for sex, the gift for marriage

Alisa’s YouTube channel is dedicated to Christian Apologetics, in addition to worship, theology, and culture. She often is a speaker for discussing Progressive Christianity, and has many videos on it. In fact, she’s written a book titled, “Another Gospel? A lifelong Christian seeks truth in response to Progressive Christianity.

(I make nothing from promoting books, just getting the word out.)

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly.
