Are White Christians Even Real Christians? (Monique Duson)

People are so worried about convicting the hearts of white people that they are not worried about the conviction in their own hearts.” – Monique Duson

Monique responds to a tweet by David Swanson. I think she makes a lot of points that we should consider. In our world of cancel-culture, people-pleasing, fear of speaking out against the crowd, Christians more than ever need to stand up by the truth of Jesus. Skin color should not determine the assumptions we have about one another and what we say to one another. Jesus alone should be our answer.

To not summarize the full video, I give questions that are answered in the video. Points and quotes Monique makes in this video are:

  • Pride goes before the fall
  • Christian Nationalism – problems with not defining
  • Issues with people not defining terms, using slogans, not data
  • “Critical” definition & connection to revolution
  • Are our terms based on scripture and historic Christianity?
  • Is revolution based on Biblical framework, and what is the problem, if it is not?
  • We need to understand how are people seeing white brothers and sisters, what is the conversation happening in the church?
  • Should fear of skin color be involved to call out others?
  • What kind of leaders in the church do we need?
  • “If you’re wrong, you’re wrong.”
  • Is discipleship based on the color of your skin?
  • “For Christians, our first priority is the church.”
  • Ephesians is like a rule book, how do we live with one another?
  • Can white people be saved?
  • Problems in black churches

Monique Duson has a YouTube channel, Center For Biblical Unity. She is the president and co-founder of Center For Biblical Unity alongside Krista Bontrager (who also has a YouTube channel, Theology Mom) which is defined in the About page on the website as:

In a culture polarized by race, and where conversations about race often lead to division, strife, and blame, the Center For Biblical Unity exists to lead respectful and Bible-centered conversations on race, unity, and justice.

We believe that the solution to these issues must start with Scripture. We begin with defining terms according to Scripture, not culture. Terms like “woke,” “white fragility,” or “whiteness” have no place within the Body of Christ and only cause hurt and increased distrust among believers.

Our aim is to use Scripture to define terms like humanity, race, love, and justice. We also want to bring practical tools for clergy and lay people to walk out the ideals of racial unity and biblical justice.”

There is a Facebook page for Center for Biblical Unity, and if you are around for a family meeting, you may be able to interact and ask questions, as you see in today’s video.

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly.
