What Is It Gonna Take? (Christian Song)

I thought I was past this.
This mire and tears.
And here I’m standing
going no where.

I thought I believed
I thought that I had faith.
But darkness comes
and seems to have its way.

What is it gonna take
for me to see?
What is it gonna take
to see Your Sovereignty?

What is it gonna take
for me to hear?
What is it gonna take
to stop the lies and fear?

What is it gonna take
to know You’re holding me?
What is it gonna take
to surrender all of me?

I read Your word,
well, sometimes.
I pray to You,
when I want what’s mine.

Is the silence
because of You?
Or will this lesson
draw me to You?

What is it gonna take
for me to see?
What is it gonna take
to see Your Sovereignty?

What is it gonna take
for me to hear?
What is it gonna take
to stop the lies and fear?

What is it gonna take
to know You’re holding me?
What is it gonna take
to surrender all of me?

I wasn’t in Your hand
because I didn’t understand
that Christ had died
and paid with His life.

The selfish prayers
were all about me.
I said the words, I read the words,
but it was all about me.

What is it gonna take
for me to see?
What is it gonna take
to see Your Sovereignty?

What is it gonna take
for me to hear?
What is it gonna take
to stop the lies and fear?

What is it gonna take
to know You’re holding me?
What is it gonna take
to surrender all of me?

His name is Jesus the Christ.
And only He paid the price.
All my sin and shame to bear.
I can see. I finally hear.

….

What is it gonna take…

….

It took Jesus conquering the grave…

What is it gonna take
for me to see?
I’m not a good person
and condemned for eternity.

What is it gonna take
for me to hear?
Stop reading myself in scripture.
Prosperity is not found here.

What is it gonna take
to know You’re holding me?
It’s only through Jesus,
through Christ… I can see.

through Christ, I can see.

My testimony is similar to many other professing Christians. Thinking I know God, but I didn’t know Him. Reading His word, but not the way it’s written. Inserting myself into the text. Making the Bible about me. Making the Gospel more about me than Jesus. Making spiritual warfare all about me and my problems, and not the conquering power of Jesus. Seeking God in prayer and ways outside of scripture. Christian Mysticism and emotionalism were my best friends, and they both were deceivers. See: My Testimony | Legalism, Christian Mysticism, & Seeing My Husband Come To Christ

I grew up focused more on being holy and sanctified, but I lacked understanding the Gospel and Jesus, the nature of Christ, and even the very nature of God. It was not until I learned the various deceptions I was under that I started getting the answers from the Bible, God’s living and breathing word. Answers to all of my questions. I was finding ground to finally stand upon, and His name is Jesus the Christ!

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly. Luke 11_39-40, _...so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy–full of greed and wickedness. Fools! Didn’t God make the inside as well as the outside_
