Leaving Critical Race Theory (Monique Duson)

Why is critical race theory affecting others? How should we think critically about it? How should Christians approach the topic?

In order to encourage you to check out the video, I’ve turned answers given into questions. Here are some points made in the video:

  • Fallacy of the week – false cause
  • Introduction to Monique
  • What turned Monique away from Critical Race theory?
  • How did Monique become woke? How did her childhood impact her thoughts?
  • How does Monique define critical race theory? (CRT)
    • Being critical of race, groups of race, etc.
  • How does Christianity differ than CRT?
  • Is the value of scripture important? How does that affect our view on CRT, among other things?
  • Do we need multiple perspectives to understand scriptural context?
  • Scripture has one context.
  • Is it true that people can have multiple truths?
  • If we tell someone their beliefs are wrong is it oppressive?
  • How is CRT similar to a cult? What struggles do people face when turn away from CRT?
  • Monique’s experience of pushback and hypocrisy connected to it
  • What is the connection of CRT and gnosticism?
  • Why should the church be aware of the problems with CRT?
  • What are common questions Monique has regarding CRT?
  • What should a parent do if they have a child that is woke?
  • What is Center for Biblically Unity?

Monique Duson has a YouTube channel, Center For Biblical Unity. She is the president and co-founder of Center For Biblical Unity alongside Krista Bontrager (who also has a YouTube channel, Theology Mom) which is defined in the About page on the website as:

In a culture polarized by race, and where conversations about race often lead to division, strife, and blame, the Center For Biblical Unity exists to lead respectful and Bible-centered conversations on race, unity, and justice.

We believe that the solution to these issues must start with Scripture. We begin with defining terms according to Scripture, not culture. Terms like “woke,” “white fragility,” or “whiteness” have no place within the Body of Christ and only cause hurt and increased distrust among believers.

Our aim is to use Scripture to define terms like humanity, race, love, and justice. We also want to bring practical tools for clergy and lay people to walk out the ideals of racial unity and biblical justice.”

There is a Facebook page for Center for Biblical Unity, and if you are around for a family meeting, you may be able to interact and ask questions, as you see in today’s video

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly. Scripture To Meditate On – 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.“
