5 Scriptures To Meditate On This Month | Jesus is God

Was Jesus created? Is Jesus God? Is Jesus the archangel Michael? Is Jesus the brother of Lucifer?

This month’s selected passages are scriptures you need to be familiar with because religions like Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and others claim Jesus is not God. Only God is righteous, holy, and pure. Only God can defeat sin. There’s so many awesome scriptures about Christ that you, as a Christian, need to be familiar with so that when people ask you why you believe you can give an answer through scripture.

Due to the fact so many are deceived by a false Christ and Gospel, I have added notes in relation to the selected passages. Unless stated, all verses are from the ESV.

Revelation 1:17-18, “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”

Note: Only God is referred as the First and the Last, and the Speaker in Revelation 1:17-18 is Christ. Again, Jesus proclaims Himself to be God because He is God. (See also: 1 Samuel 2:06, Romans 6:09, Isaiah 41:04, 44:06)

1 Corinthians 1:23-25, “but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.“

Note: Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

John 1:01-03, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.“

Note: Christ, the Word, is referred to as God. Through Christ all things were made. If all creation is made through Christ, that means He is the First and the Last (see Revelation 1:17 above). Which means Christ cannot be both Creator and created. He existed before all things because He never came into existence, He always was, is, and will forever be because He is God, the First and Last.

Philippians 2:06-11, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Note: Christ did not empty Himself the way we think of empty. Jesus, as God, added another nature to Himself, man, becoming the God-Man. Only God can live a sinless life, if Jesus ceased being God then our sins would not be paid off. Only God is righteous and holy. Man alone is not. Hebrews 1:03-06, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” *emphasis mine

Note: This passage in Hebrews shows that Jesus is not the archangel Michael or brother of Lucifer. Jesus is never referred as a mere angel, as angels are not referred to as God. Angels worship God. In this passage, we see the angels worship Christ, therefore, Christ is worshipped because He is God. Otherwise, we have angels worshipping an idol, and that is not the case. I do believe the Angel of the Lord could be a reference to Christ to the Pre-incarnate Christ. Angel means messenger. And the Angel of the Lord was the only time we see Him being worshipped as God, again, distinct difference from angels who are not to be worshipped.

Quote from Got Questions about the Angel of the Lord – “In several of these appearances, those who saw the angel of the Lord feared for their lives because they had “seen the Lord.” Therefore, it is clear that in at least some instances, the angel of the Lord is a theophany, an appearance of God in physical form. The appearances of the angel of the Lord cease after the incarnation of Christ. Angels are mentioned numerous times in the New Testament, but “the angel of the Lord” is never mentioned in the New Testament after the birth of Christ.“Who is The Angel of the Lord?

The Gospel Message: With the Good News means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly. 1. It’s so crucial to understand Who Christ is and especially Who He claimed to be. I’ve heard people say Jesus is either God or He was crazy. We can’t just say, oh, He was a nice guy, a prophet maybe, but not God. No, He claimed to be God, so He either is or He is a liar. And the evidence and scripture is clear – Jesus is God. Understanding how Christ is God really helped my faith through His kindness of opening my eyes. I hope sharing these scriptures challenges others and through the grace of the Lord, that He uses these truths to open eyes.
