Where To Learn About Christian Apologetics?

Christian Apologetics is being able to give a defense for our faith. God instructs us through His holy word to be able to give a reason for why we believe.

Growing up, I had a blind faith. I didn’t realize that genuine faith is actually based on solid evidence, not mere feeling or experience. While I thought I was so spiritually mature, I truly knew little about the Gospel, I thought it was a “surface-topic,” as I once put it. But that was because I didn’t fully understand the Gospel, and I REALLY did not understand Christ. One of the things we can rest most certain in, regarding God’s will for our life, is that we are to test everything and see if it holds up to the test. We can test scripture and find it true. We can test, is Jesus real, and find evidence, yes, He existed. The world around us supports what God’s word says, which makes sense because He made it, and He knows what is going on with His creation. But when we or others do not have the answers to skepticism – it can be harder to answer questions, either of others or ourselves.

Questioning Christianity isn’t new, and despite the amount of times millions of people have tried to water down Christ – the truth prevails.

Today, I’d like to share just a few resources and people that I have found helpful regarding Christian Apologetics.

Please understand – I believe a person’s eyes must be open to their own sin and the truth of Jesus as their Savior, to come to faith, which is done through the Author of faith, Jesus. But I believe, in having faith in Jesus, we can see how the world around us is proclaiming the Creator’s existence.

Being able to present evidence, unless the Lord wills, will not open someone’s eyes. But being able to give a defense for faith is a command from the Lord we should follow, and it might just leave a pebble in someone’s shoe. Understand the Gospel well, and understand how the world points back to the Gospel message and the Creator.

Authors/Books:

Lee Strobel

• Lee was a skeptic journalist before he became a Christian. In fact, he used his skills as a journalist to see if he could disprove that Christ existed. Through his journey of trying to disprove Jesus, he found more and more evidence that challenged his skepticism. He became a believer. He is the author of several books I’ve enjoy, but these three I’ve found really helpful for Christian Apologetics, which are- The Case for Christ, The Case for the Real Jesus, and The Case for a Creator. I’ve listened to these as audiobooks through the app Libby (which connects you to libraries online).

Greg Koukl

• Tactics – This book doesn’t go much in-depth to Christian Apologetics, but I would recommend this book because Greg teaches how we should listen to others, and how to respond. When we know Christian Apologetics, it’s important then we know the right way to talk to people. Asking the right kind of questions, and helping people think about their mindset (in a gentle way) is most effective and kind. The goal isn’t to change people’s minds, but rather, as Greg puts it, to leave a pebble in someone’s shoe.

Answers in Genesis

• The Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter are both connected to Answers in Genesis. (See my experience going to both.) Sean McDowell

• Dr Sean McDowell is a professor at Biola University. He has participated in several debates defending the Christian faith. His channels covers many questions skeptics might have about the Christian faith, as well as other topics as well.

Mike Winger

• Mike covers a variety of topics on his channel. He has broken down why Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Catholicism are wrong, as well as cover some other cults, like Mother God. He covers many questions Christians have, as well as questions skeptics have. While I may not agree with every position he has, I so appreciate the amount of research and time he spends in the Lord’s word.

J. Warner Wallace

• Mr. Wallace worked on cold cases for decades. He was not a believer until one day, similar to Lee Strobel, he noticed how the Gospel accounts were like witness accounts (because they are). He wondered, if he could use the same tactics he would a cold case to the Gospels. Through this approach, he discovered the Bible to be true. He has written books, such as Cold Case Christianity and he does have a YouTube channel, as well. His channel helps break down many questions skeptics have.

Movies

American Gospel 1 & 2

• When the scales of my own eyes started to fall, American Gospel 1 & 2 really helped me understand the Gospel so much better. The Lord encouraged me through these movies. I’ve since made a goal to be more aware of the Gospel, its importance, and how to be able to share the truth of the Gospel through memorization and meditation of God’s word. Note: The third movie will be released this year (2022). Sometimes on their American Gospel Tv they will do free showings of these movies, but if you buy a subscription you will be able to view these movies. Amazon also sells the movies or you could rent them.

Question: What resources helped you with Christian Apologetics?

The Gospel Message: With the Good News means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly.
