A few years ago, I had a series on prayer. I enjoyed the series and it seemed like some of my followers did as well. I think most of the series is now private, however. A lot of the posts just needed some rewording. But in the meantime, I’ve been wanting to share some examples on prayer for the past several months.
Prayer can be intimidating for people who are not used to praying. However, you don’t have to have these long and eloquent prayers. We are told to pray without ceasing, which means there is a TON of stuff we can and should pray about.
Note: Purpose of series – Goal is to help those who struggle to pray to have an example, as well as a few scripture references. I hope to encourage prayer and to help give people an idea of various things we can pray about.

Prayer for the New Year
Dear Lord,
Help me with the coming new year. I know a new year does not hold any power. There is no difference between December 31st and January 1st. You, Lord, are in charge of every day and every night. You, Lord, are in charge of the changes and seasons. Please help me focus on Your truth through reading and hearing Your scripture.
Please guide me as I think about what I would like to improve on this new year. Lord, help me examine myself. Reveal sin that is in my heart, my mind, and my soul. Reveal sin that is hindering me from giving You glory. Help me seek forgiveness and repent through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Help me love others through patience, compassion, and gentleness. Help me find strength through You, Father, in my weakness. Help me love those enough to tell them the truth of false teaching and the truth of false teachers when the topic comes up. Please reveal Your wisdom to me through Your holy word.
Help me not get pulled into trends that teach me false messages about myself and about You. Lord, especially right now. There are a lot of people who will be pulled into snares of self-image, the idol of self. Lord, please expose and help us see the lies of toxic culture, the addiction of emotions, the lie of self-postivity.
Often the new year brings a curiosity to the New Age. The lies of a vision board is one. I ask that You open the eyes of all who are involved and all who are thinking of getting involved. I ask that You help them be protected and that they do not get consumed into pagan worship. Please, Lord, help me not fall into pagan worship that claims to be Christian, when it has nothing to do with You.
Thank You for giving us instructions in Your word. Thank You for the opportunity to grow throughout each and every day through conviction of the Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord, Jesus, for living a perfect and sinless life, for dying on the cross while I was still a sinner, and taking the wrath of God upon Yourself in my place. I praise You for resurrecting from the dead and conquering sin and death. Be glorified, Almighty.
In Your holy name, Lord, Jesus.
~ Amen

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly. Scripture To Meditate On –(ESV) Colossians 1:15-16 – For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
