Oppressed (My Body No Choice) | Christian Poem

Friends, today I share a topic that I know brings up immediate thoughts and feelings. A poem that I know is painful, infuriating, and personal. I think every woman has thought of whether she wanted or did not want children. For over six months, I’ve been praying, writing, and researching. Today’s poem may not be for women who have experienced an abortion and suffering from it.

I so appreciate you ladies who think differently now. I am so sorry the world has lied to you and tried to disguise a hurt that only Jesus can heal. I am also sorry for ladies who live in terrible situations and abortion is encouraged. Abortion seems like a better option when there’s little to eat and the home is dangerous. This beautiful interview with Sarah Zagorski on Surviving Abortion helps me understand that abortion is not always about not wanting a child, but the circumstances that make a woman feel like there are no other options. As Sarah shares, abortion doesn’t stop the oppression. Abortion doesn’t stop the hardship, but it adds to it.

My poem tries to cover arguments we hear for why abortion is ok. It was written with anguish of those millions of children who never saw the light of day. It was written with love for those who are hurting and suffering from previous abortions. Exposing the false love and lies the world sells to pregnant women. Exposing the hate our sinful nature has for kids. In the future, I might dedicate a poem about troubled mothers after further research. But this poem’s focus is on the common arguments we hear.

I bear in mind there are women who have had painful miscarriages. Sorrow that gives way to believing or wondering if abortion, perhaps, would be less painful. The world manipulates and preys on pain. What might seem like a kinder option still has lifelong consequences.

The poem considers unborn girls who also have a body, but no voice, as well as unborn boys.

I have an explanation at the bottom, and further resources for your own research and consideration. Please skip the poem, if it is painful. If you scroll to the bottom, you’ll see I have a section titled Personal Stories, under Resources, and some stories are from those who have had an abortion and found grace through Christ.

One last note for those who are hurting from abortion. Ladies, if you fear you have committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because you had an abortion, first of all, let me tell you, no. Feeling sorrow over sin is a sign you haven’t. You might want to check out this post I did on what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is. I am praying for you, and I am so sorry you are hurting. But I am joyful this isn’t the end of your story, mother. There’s redemption and reunion in Christ.

Oppress – to crush by abuse of power or authority.
Oppression – unjust or cruel exercise of power or authority.
Oppressive – unreasonably burdensome or severe.

Fight for the right.
Fight for justice.
Be the voice for those
who can’t speak.

YOU matter.
YOU have value.
Self-care.
Self-worth.

The world screams
SELF.
But me, I’m worthless
to them.

I don’t have value
to them.
I don’t have a voice
because no one hears me scream.

I only have value,
if she says so.
I only matter,
if she says so.

I’m not looked upon as human.
She’ll dehumanize me,
as much as she can.
The world jeers and cheers her.

Taunts.

The world lies.
The world is a liar.
Feelings make decisions.
Commitments expire.

When did the value of a human
become a choice of someone else?
Let’s take the feelings out of it.
Let’s take the selfishness out of self.

Killing is okay,
if someone hurt a woman.
So, the woman kills
the one who did nothing to her.

No. That’s not justice, is it?

Prosecute the rapist.
Make him pay.
But the life of an innocent dying,
just isn’t the right way.

Sin begets more sin.
Oh yes, we see it today.
“Kill the littles now,
so they won’t see another day.

It’s okay.
They won’t be in foster care.
They won’t be in poverty.
We kill because we care.”

But, what about the ones
who came and rose above?
What about the ones who care
because they know what it’s like to lack love?

What authority do others have
to replace my voice and choice?
Why cry about baby formula,
if you don’t care if I have a voice?

Just get rid of the babies, right?
The toddler isn’t wanted anymore.
So, get rid of her because she’s a financial issue?
It’s the same logic, here’s the door.

“But that’s murder
and we don’t do that.
We kill because we care.
Put the baby under the door mat.

Not seen.
Not heard.
Out of sight, out of mind.
No value, it’s fine.”

It’s harder to kill face to face.
But even then some do.
A human isn’t a human
until we say “it’s” a who.

Another lie from the enemy.
We care about your identity.
Yeah, okay. Sure.
I just have to live through insanity.

The babes of animals
get better service and love
from the world
than babes in the womb.

My home my only tomb.

You’re telling me,
my body, my rights
are determined by another,
and I’m valued much less than an animal.

Less than minimal.

Identifying as human isn’t enough.
I’m just an annoying gnat
to get rid of, to kill.
Again, no thought of my voice or will.

Destroying life is a joke
an entertainment.
I’m an afterthought. A pill.
Dismemberment.

It’s not about me.
That’s the point of abortion.
Desensitize. Detach.
Dehumanize. It’s just a procedure.

No going back. Let’s be sure.

Leave the building
and the decaying body behind.
Don’t think of the blood
and murder flood.

They’ll smile at you.
Give you a hug.
Make you feel better.
As you sign my death letter.

Love-bombing you
so you accept.
Enter the cult
don’t question. Don’t look.

Intention. What’s written in books.

But let’s look to the another side.
There are those who are afraid and starting to care.
Voices telling them what to do to their body and mine.
These women don’t want to be there.

Those tortured women,
who are torn with decisions
because they see through the veil
a human has life, I don’t want to kill.

But encourage her.
Motivate her.
Deceive her.
Mama doesn’t know better.

Why do you think
families are so broken now?
Destroy the husband, the wife,
the child somehow.

Destroy their image.
Encourage self.
Take the burden of commitment and responsibility.
Focus on saving wealth.

Focus on identity.
Focus on the self-love.
They’ll kill you,
just like they killed me, too.

A deception greater
lays in your heart, dear mother.
A bandwagon waits to embrace you,
sticking knives until you’re broken through.

The abortion isn’t
just about me,
But a part of yourself,
a literal part of your identity.

The world wants you
cold and calloused.
Hollow and broken
For their self-love malice.

You’re part of a campaign.
A dark origin of eugenics.
A hidden layer of racism.
Hate for family, the new Hooked On Phonics.

The people might be nice.
Yes, they may be sincere.
But deception is always like that.
Hidden and unclear.

Dear mother, I hope the wolves
do not guide you.
I hope you are not filled with their lies.
But even then there is forgiveness for my demise.

Christ died for the sick.
The deceived and broken.
He died for the unworthy ones.
Which, we all are, even unspoken.

He paid off our debt of sin.
He broke off the bondage
of a cruel, selfish master.
He changes us from what we were.
He makes beautiful the once disaster.

Grieving mother of what could be
you don’t have to hold the pain.
Repent of your sin and Christ’s blood
can set you free.

You do not have to be
under the world’s lies.
Feasting and waiting
for your own demise.

Let the Creator decide what happens.
We were all created with the will to live.
If I truly have a body and choice,
let me decide, give me a voice.

Explanation of Poem

Words are not enough.

I had been working on this poem since the summer of 2022. I knew with the topic the poem needed to have time. Time for me to hear feedback. Time to pray. Time to find resources that might be helpful. Time to think about those who have had an abortion. Time to think about those who have had a traumatic miscarriage or birth story in which an infant dies or is delivered dead. Such sorrow leads some women to think perhaps an abortion would be better/easier.

We have a lot of feelings and thoughts on the topic. I wanted to think about the perspective of individuals who do not have a voice. Individuals who are silenced. Individuals who are stripped of their humanity. All of the stories I’ve heard from people who survived an abortion and were able to grow up… their answer has been the same. They want to live. Whenever we see humans fighting to survive there is a hope, an endurance, that cannot really be understood. We are created with the will to live, even if we die.

Maybe our body shuts down. But the physical does not replace the internal soul. We were created to live. Sin brought in corruption. But we were created to live.

Knowing we are God’s creation and He forms the one in the womb, who are we to crush the human spirit yet gloat about how much we encourage human spirit? We put stipulations on people. A little person is not a little person until we say so. Being human isn’t enough. What if what we think is kind and loving is actually deceiving and hateful? A genocide worse than the Holocaust? But it doesn’t look like the Holocaust because “they’re not people, they don’t have rights.”

We were created to serve. Our God, our Creator, our Savior. We were created to serve one another. To be an example. In the sinful world we live in, it’s really hard to not want to desire things for ourselves. Our success. Making money. Having a good job. A beautiful home. We put so much value on ourselves and our efforts. We want to be known for “me.”

It’s hard to think about submitting to one another. It’s hard to think (for some) that a major season of our time could be taken up by raising a child. I believe God’s design is right and we are the ones who reject Him and fight against what He has made. I believe we can get so tied up in what ifs, greed, selfishness, and fear that we can’t look beyond. We can’t look toward the future. We can’t find hope even in loss and sorrow. But there is hope in Christ and in His design. There’s so much we do not understand.

Being fixated on ourselves, leads to the mentality the Nazis had. Belittling others, seeing humans as less. I can do what I want with my body and it doesn’t matter how it hurts another person. It’s MY body. The amount of women and girls who are assaulted from the mentality of my body my choice. The amount of children who are being assaulted by pedophiles. My body my choice. Someone at some point doesn’t have a choice and her voice is unheard.

Where is the boundary of these harmful lies? Sin has none. I fear the same arguments for the unborn will also be the same arguments for the elderly. It’s the same mentality. Too expensive. Too many humans. Too much effort. I don’t care. Killing is the kinder option. The more we reject the truth of the Creator, the more we will be given into our sinful delusion. We do not see all humans as image-bearers of our Creator. Therefore, we treat people differently. We look at God differently.

Denying the truth leads us to death. What is loving from the world is hateful. Sin will lead to despair, destruction, and death. Always.

Counters that get covered in Greatest Pro-Choice Takedowns with Kristina Hawkins: (see list below.)

  • Pro-life doesn’t care about babies once they are born. Is it wrong if someone spends all their time fighting abortion?
  • A baby is property of a woman, and she can do what she wants as long as baby is in womb.
  • Is it about bodily autonomy?
  • Why is a living baby born out of the womb from a failed abortion not considered a baby?
  • NOTE: The woman around the 20 min mark you can tell she’s very emotional and angry. As she talks, she reveals she doesn’t want a child due to $$$. Fear desensitizes us. Fear allows us to not call humans human. And we don’t want to admit this because we look like bad humans. Her question (originally) had to do with citizenship of where a child is born if an American gets someone in a different country pregnant. But as she talks, she doesn’t really seem to care about her question, which I believe shows her true intention. All she wanted to do was make the speaker look bad and not engage.

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly.
