It was humble Abagail who was able to calm down the anger of David when her not so humble husband, Nabal, angered the soon to be king.
Humility is being able to recognize that we do not know everything. Humility allows us to think of others before ourselves. Humility honors the Lord. Whereas pride is the opposite of humility, in which we are convinced we have the answers. We selfishly focus on ourselves. We dishonor the Lord with our pride
A couple months ago, I shared a post “My Power Has Gained Me This Wealth” | Taking Credit for What God Has Done, and I can’t help but think how easy it is for our pride to get in the way of the Lord’s truth. Sin will always hinder us and sin will always damage our relationship with the Lord.
Psalm 138:06 says – For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.
Life Application for Psalm 138:06
- The Lord is on high. The only way to have access to the Lord is through Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus says that He is the only way to the Father. So while it seems impossible to go to the throne of grace, we absolutely can through putting faith in Jesus. He is our Intercessor, our High Priest. Christ has done the impossible.
- God regards the lowly. God is aware of the humble. To have genuine humility is something we can only achieve through Jesus Christ. Humility helps us learn wisdom and the fear of God. It makes sense that those who are humble would naturally be noticed by the Lord because the humble fear the Lord, and He is already involved with their humility.
- Haughty means an arrogant person, someone who sees themselves far superior than they actually are. Pride leads to destruction. Pride is the root of all sin because we make sinful choices that benefit us in one way or the other. Even negativity or self-loathing is still self-obession. Pride is about our hidden desire to be god. Similarly to humility which draws us to the Lord, the opposite is true for pride because we want to be god, we reject His truth, and therefore the Lord also rejects us.
The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly.
