In What Ways Is God Faithful? | Promises for the Christian

“I just don’t know what promises God has for me,” she shook her head.

“How often do you read the Bible,” her friend asked.

“Mostly when I attend church,” she replied.

Her friend frowned. “Yeah, you might want to change your habit to daily reading.”

I wrote today’s post in the summer of 2022 because I had a friend who was confused about promises the Christian can hold to for today. I wanted a huge list of scriptures we can cling to, and today’s post I hope brings some encouragement.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about all of the promises God gives to the Christian. I hear a lot of people talk about how there are a lot of promises, but I haven’t really seen an exhaustive list for scriptures we can study. Well, I want an exhaustive list for studying purposes. I want references.

There truly is a lot for the Christian to meditate on. We need to understand and be equipped with the truth of God. We must be equipped and ready because if we are not, then we are trying to fight a war without armor and a sword. We are sitting ducks in a desert. We are spiritually hungry and thirsty. (See: One Reason Why American Christians Are Struggling So Badly)

Which led to me sitting down and deciding to add a new series, God’s Promises. I want to be able to pick one particular promise and study it. But before I really begin the series, I realized, I needed to focus on His faithfulness first. And, that led to what you see today.

What assurances do we have and what is God faithful in doing for the Christian? How is the Lord faithful in His nature?

When we feel we are distant from the Lord or that He is letting us down, meditate on these truths NOT what our emotions lead us to think.

Disclaimer: Everyone Will Receive Promises of God, But We Will Not Like All of Them

Notice, we cannot grow and increase in endurance on our own. If you have not put your faith in Christ, these listed promises below are not given to you. But the promises that are for those who refuse Christ is eternal suffering in Hell, as the wages of sin is death. Our sin must be paid for. Please see: the note on the bottom, titled Gospel Message & Why Did A Loving God Kill His Son? (Does God Hate?) to understand why Christ is the only way.

  • The world declares to us there is a Creator & Savior. The truth of God is already written on our hearts. God’s handprint is everywhere in His creation, which should be an encouragement for us. (Psa 19:01-06, Rom 1:18-25)
  • God ministers to us through His Gospel in the holy and living word. (John 20:30-3116:07-1514:26 | Heb 4:12 | 1 Thess 1:05 | Psa 1:01-03 | Prov 3:01-23 | Col 1:05-11)
  • He increases our faith in Him. (Rom 10:17, Heb 12:01-03 | 2 Thess 1:03-08)
  • He convicts us of sin leading to repentance (John 16:07-08 | 2 Cor 7:08-10)
  • If we confess our sins, God will forgive us through the atonement sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:09 | Prov 28:13)
  • He makes us belong to Christ, instead of being in bondage to sin. (Rom 8:09, Col 1:11-14)
  • We are justified through Christ, through the grace of God, and faith. Our sin debt is paid off through Christ sacrificing Himself on the cross (known as atonement). He took the wrath of God, the just punishment all sinners deserve, becoming our propitiation. (Rom 3:23-28, Heb 2:16-18, 1 John 2:01-034:09-10)
  • He will help us against temptation of the evil one. (2 Thess 3:03 | Psa 1:03)
  • He never forsakes His own & sends the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to indwell within the believer. The Holy Spirit also helps with conviction of sin, see reference above. (Psa 27:10-11 | Isa 49:14-16 | Heb 13:05 | Deut 31:06,08 | John 14:15-18 | 1 Cor 3:166:19 | 2 Cor 6:16 | 1 Thess 1:05)
  • He fills us with joy, praise, thanksgiving, and peace as we trust (put faith) in Christ and His words. (Rom 15:13 | John 14:27 | Col 1:11-18 | Psa 147:01-11148-150)
  • He gives us endurance, courage, and strength through the strengthening of our faith in Jesus. (Psa 2728:06-09 29:1131:23-24138 | Col 1:11 | Eph 3:16 | Phil 4:08-13 | 2 Cor 12:09 | Heb 12:03)
  • He gives us peace through wisdom and understanding. This wisdom and understanding will always be connected to Jesus, for Christ is where we find the wisdom of God. Holding to these truths we can have peace, despite trials. We will be able to love the Lord more through understanding Him, this is part of the renewing of our mind. (Phil 4:07 | Jam 1 | Psa 1:0319:0729:11 | Prov 13 | Rom 12:02)
  • He increases our love for one another. (1 Thess 3:12 | Eph 4:02 | 1 John 4:09-10
  • He prunes us to be bountiful in the fruit of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, self-control, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and kindness. (Gal 5:22-23 | John 15:01-02)
  • He completely sanctifies the Christian (Lev 20:0826 | 1 Thess 3:135:23)
  • He keeps our whole spirit, soul, and body blameless at the coming of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 1:08-09,30 | 1 Thess 3:135:23 | Eph 5:27)

Scripture To Meditate On  (ESV) 1 Timothy 3:16 – Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
