Pet Peeve | We Don’t “Allow” God to Do Anything

“I let God…”
“I allowed God…”

Let me just cut to the main point.

Chapter and verse, please?

Why use the word “allow?”

Think about it. Do we truly give God permission? A creation giving the Creator… permission?

I can’t help but think of these verses.

Isaiah 29:16- You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

Romans 9:20 – But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”

Isaiah 10:15 – Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!

To be fair, I understand the verbiage. I grew up with the slogan, “Let go, and let God.” But Biblically, it’s more like we submit to Christ, and from submitting, we aren’t holding to what we shouldn’t. It’s not about permitting the Lord anything. It’s about us learning our place.

When we learn to respect the Lord, Who is Sovereign, righteous, and everything He does is just, pure, right, and good, well, then, we have an assurance in His will. We can trust that our obedience to Him will guide us into the things He has promised in His word.

When we think we have to “let” or “allow” the Lord to do anything, it follows the deception that we are the one in control. And my friends, praise be to God, we are not the ones in control; which means, if we have no control, we have no one to ask permission of our control.

After all, we were never the ones in control.

We were never created to be the one in control, but to submit to the One Who is. It is He we make our petitions to.

The Gospel Message– The Gospel message is good news, which means there’s bad news. We all are sinners and condemned. We all deserve the just punishment of God’s wrath. Christianity is unlike any other religion because we cannot earn our way into Heaven. God saw the weakness of man and his utter depravity. Yet, He showed us grace. Jesus, God, One Person of the Trinity, became God in the flesh, the God-Man. He was always perfect and sinless. And His humanity was perfected on the cross, living the full sinless life. He became our atonement sacrifice. Dying in our place, taking on the wrath of God upon Himself. He died on the cross, and He was resurrected because death could not hold Him. Jesus is the answer. We, as guilty sinners, need His blood to pay off our debt of sin. For all who put their faith in Him – meaning eyes are opened to the Gospel, we see ourselves as a sinner, we see the need for Christ, we desire our Savior, and we see the ugliness of our sin. Putting our faith in Jesus, we seek HIs forgiveness and repent from our sins, we turn away from our old way of life. We, through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to become convicted of sin daily. Our eyes will never be the same again. We see things in a different light, and the truth of Christ affects how we live and serve Him. Christ tells us to count the cost. Salvation is a serious topic, it is not to be taken lightly. 1. Agreed, that doesn’t make sense. God isn’t held back by His creation. If He wants us to know something, He reveals through His word (2 Tim 3:16-17). Even people in the OT who tried to do nothing with the Lord couldn’t hide from Him. It’s silly to think we hinder the Lord, we have no such power. Praise the Lord!
